One of the great names in postwar French motor sport, Alpine was the brainchild of Dieppe garagiste's son, Jean Redele, who began in the early 1950s by developing a competition version of the popular little Renault 4CV, which won its class in the Mille Miglia three years running.

In 1963 Alpine launched the famous A110 Berlinette that became the mainspring of production, its rearward weight bias giving it outstanding cornering characteristics for rallying. In 1969, A110s finished 1-2-3 in the Coupe des Alpes and came 3rdin the Monte Carlo Rally. The following year, Alpines again came 3rd in the Monte and won the Acropolis and Tour de Corse rallies. Alpine driver Jean-Claude Andruet became European Rally Champion.

The Alpine 1600 SC was released in 1973 with the A310 rear axle and overlapping double wishbone suspension with two shock absorbers instead of the previous four, the result being an improvement in stability and handling. In addition, the wheels were secured by four bolts and the door handles replaced with simple push-buttons. Also, a rear panel removable from within the interior enabled access to the engine bay. The 1,605cc Renault 12 Gordini engine was mated to a five-speed gearbox. With 127bhp DIN on tap, the compact and aerodynamic little berlinette had a top speed of 215km/h (133mph). Only 481 units were produced between 1973 and 1975.

This Alpine A110 1600S, chassis number '20470', was delivered by Alpine dealer Vermeersch to its first owner, a jeweller from Gosselies, Belgium on 4th July 1975. Its AA101 body, numbered '10463', was manufactured at Dieppe and originally finished in Alpine Blue. Its engine, numbered '001294', is of the 844-30 type and corresponds to the original specification. On 24th April 1986, the Alpine was registered by a collector in Mons, who subsequently sold it to the current owner's father.

Showing approximately 98,000 kilometres on the odometer today, this Alpine is notable for its rare authenticity; it has never suffered the rigours of competition and retains its attractive original Alpine Blue paintwork. Following a service by a marque specialist, the car is offered with a recent Belgian registration certificate and a Belgian roadworthiness inspection valid until May 2031.

The A110 1600 SC/VD is one of the most desirable versions of Alpine's iconic berlinette, and this exceptionally original example represents a particularly appealing opportunity for the collector seeking an unspoiled example.
