Introduced in the late 1960s, the Bultaco El Bandido was developed to meet the growing demand for high-performance off-road motorcycles capable of excelling in the increasingly competitive world of motocross and cross-country competition. Combining robust engineering with lightweight construction, the El Bandido quickly established a reputation for strong performance, reliability and unmistakable Spanish flair.
This 1969 M61 El Bandido represents an early example of a model that helped cement Bultaco's standing among the world's leading manufacturers of competition motorcycles. Powered by a potent two-stroke single-cylinder engine and housed within a lightweight tubular frame, the M61 offered the responsive handling and impressive power delivery that made Bultaco machines a popular choice amongst both professional and amateur riders.
Of particular note is the fitment of a twin-plug cylinder head, together with Betor front forks and S&W rear shock absorbers, electronic ignition and a more modern carburettor, performance modifications that enhance the machine's competition specification and are likely to be of interest to Bultaco enthusiasts.
Little is known of this machine's history, although the private vendor was advised that it had originally been used for ice racing in Finland. It would appear to have been the subject of an earlier restoration. We are advised by the vendor that the motorcycle has been recently started and is reported to run well.
As one of Bultaco's most recognisable off-road models, the El Bandido remains highly regarded for its competition pedigree and its role in the development of late-1960s motocross and enduro machinery. Today, surviving examples are increasingly sought after by collectors of historic competition motorcycles, particularly machines retaining matching frame and engine numbers. The M61's distinctive styling, period engineering and historical significance ensure its enduring appeal.
An evocative and highly collectable Spanish two-stroke from a golden era of off-road motorcycling, this Bultaco M61 El Bandido presents a rare opportunity to acquire an important example of one of Bultaco's most celebrated competition models.
Sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's history, originality, authenticity, mechanical condition, and completeness (or otherwise) prior to bidding. Offered without documents.
