The British JAP engine's stranglehold on the speedway world loosened in the 1960s with the arrival of Czechoslovakian ESO machines. Founded in 1949, ESO specialised in speedway and other off-road competition motorcycles and was part of the Jawa-CZ group. In 1966 the ESO name was dropped, the firm's DT5 speedway model becoming the Jawa DT500 (or 500DT) Type 680, a machine that would come to dominate its sport until well in to the succeeding decade.
This Jawa-JAP special dates from the late 1960s/early 1970s, a time when many riders chose to stick with tried and tested four-bolt JAP motor but preferred the Jawa/ESO frame; indeed, in 1967 Swedish ace Ove Fundin won the World Final riding a J AP-engined ESO. An older restoration, the machine features an Amal Concentric carburettor, Jawa clutch, and a Hagon fuel tank. The machine was last used in 2016.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the track and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's history, originality, authenticity, mechanical condition, usage and completeness (or otherwise) prior to bidding. There are no documents offered with this Lot. It should be noted that the engine number prefix is illegible.
