c.1954 BSA 350cc Gold Star
Registration no. 738 EOV
Frame no. CB32.1251 (see text)
Engine no. BB.32.GS.1011.

This Gold Star was purchased new from BSA by the private vendor's late grandfather, who rode it home from the factory as he lived only some 15 miles away from Small Heath at the time. At that time the grandfather was a BSA employee, working as a toolmaker at the Small Heath factory. The RF.60 logbook lists Birmingham Small Arms as the first owner on 29th December 1961 with the vendor's uncle listed as 1st Change on 8th January 1962.

This is a unique machine with some unusual characteristics. The frame number 'CB32.1251' dates from 1954 but does not appear in the factory records. The frame itself dates from between 1955 and 1960. The engine number 'BB32GS1011' dates from late 1953/early 1954 but has no entry against it in the records. The frame number appears to have a 'depression' beneath the '2' in the CB32; this usually means someone has scrubbed off a '1' from a CB31 frame to create a CB32. It should also be noted that the frame number recorded in the RF.60 is 'CB-1251'. The engine number appear to be stamped onto an original surface, but not with the font as used on BB32 engines in 1954.

After the grandfather's passing, the vendor's uncle took ownership and used the machine in several trials before it was restored by the current vendor's father. The BSA has sat for a few years and will need recommissioning before returning to the road. Prior to bidding, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to the origin, correctness, authenticity and mechanical condition of this motorcycle, which is sold strictly as viewed. Offered with a V5C registration Certificate and the aforementioned RF.60 logbook.
