The Michael ("Mick") Brough Collection, 2002 Ducati 748 Biposto

The Michael ("Mick") Brough Collection
2002 Ducati 748 Biposto
Registration no. HJ02 TXO
Frame no. ZDMH300AAYB006747
Engine no. ZDM748W4-018772 (see text)

'Baby brother' of the iconic 916, from which it is virtually indistinguishable, Ducati's 748 was the preferred choice of the many riders who found the smaller model more easily controllable. Even today, the 748's combination of v-twin grunt and one of the best chassis ever built is guaranteed to keep it at the front of the track-day pack in the hands of a competent rider. And when it comes to style there's simply no comparison. Universally recognised as icons of automotive art, Ducati motorcycles have been exhibited in some of the world's foremost museums, including the Guggenheim in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco.

Michael Brough purchased this Ducati 748 Biposto from a UK auction in June 2024, at which time it was said to have been acquired in 2015 by the previous owner for display in a design studio. According to the accompanying HPI report, the Ducati has had two previous keepers and was first registered in the UK on 15th April 2002.

The most recent MOT certificate expired on 17 July 2026. The odometer recorded 3,078 miles on 18 July 2025 and now displays approximately 3,095 miles at the time of cataloguing.
The motorcycle retains a Three Cross Motor Cycles dealer decal on the fuel tank. As expected of a machine of this age, there are various cosmetic imperfections, including scuffs and scratches consistent with use and storage. Evidence of oil residue is present around the engine and rear frame areas. The machine would benefit from cleaning, detailing and a thorough inspection before any regular road use.

The positioning of the Three Cross decal and the appearance of the paintwork suggest that the fuel tank, and possibly other body panels, may have been refinished at some stage. However, the motorcycle remains HPI clear.

A documented service was carried out by GT Motorcycles of Devon in October 2020, including an annual service, MOT inspection, brake fluid replacement and timing belt renewal. Given the elapsed time since this work was undertaken, the timing belts should be replaced before the machine is returned to regular service.

The machine is offered with the following:

• 2015 North Cornwall Motorcycles invoice (part exchange against BSA)
• 2016 tyre invoice
• 2020 service receipt (including timing belt replacement)
• 2024 auction purchase invoice
• Previous MoT certificates
• V5C Registration Certificate
• Workshop manual

Due to the presence of the bodywork, it has not been possible to verify the engine number directly. However, the HPI report records the engine number as 'ZDM748W4-018772'.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
