Frame no. CB32 6274 (see text)

Michael Brough purchased this BSA Gold Star Replica shortly after it had been offered for sale in 2024 by a UK auction house, remaining unsold. At that time the rolling chassis was said to be from a 1956 example exported to the USA as a Clubman's model. When the rolling chassis returned to the UK some years later it initially formed part of a Rocket Gold Star replica.
In 2012, a major rebuild was carried out by John Edwards. The engine was assembled by marque specialist Phil Pearson using a pair of unstamped crankcases, which were stamped with a fictitious number - 'BB34 GS 1047' - to avoid suggesting that it was a matching-numbers unit. The engine bottom-end incorporates a modern NEB crankshaft and a con-rod from a speedway motor. Other notable features include a George Prew reproduction cylinder; Omega piston; 2442/2446 cams; and an anti-wet-sumping valve. The cylinder head is believed to be a genuine BSA DBD part fitted with Colisbro guides and lead-free valve seats/valves by The Cylinder Head Shop. The clutch is another Phil Pearson item, which copes well with the gearbox's high first gear, while the Mikuni carburettor and BTH magneto greatly improve the machine's starting and rideability.
The front wheel rim is unmarked, while the rear wheel is fitted with an Akront rim. The gearbox carries the stamping 'RRT2', with the 'T' inverted, indicating a non-factory stamp.
The motorcycle remains attractively presented, with the engine turning freely and exhibiting strong compression. The odometer shows 1,199 miles, which is believed to be the distance covered since the 2012 rebuild. Accompanying paperwork includes the 2024 auction listing and gallery guide; old/current V5C Registration Certificates; previous owner's summary of features; restoration and maintenance records; record of works and costs; and old MoT certificates.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding. Key not required.
Clearly built to a high specification and thoughtfully developed, this Goldie replica captures the character and appearance of BSA's legendary competition single to impressive effect. A well-executed machine offering strong performance credentials and considerable visual appeal, it is sure to attract close inspection from enthusiasts and collectors alike.
