"Designed by BMW to combine car-like safety and comfort with the speed and manoeuvrability of a motorcycle, it is poised to become the latest 'must have' item." - Evening Standard.
BMW's 21st Century take on the concept of the ideal urban motorcycle, the unique, semi-enclosed C1 was introduced in 2000. Designed to appeal to the non-enthusiast market, more interested in beating traffic congestion while remaining dry and comfortable than getting its knee down on roundabouts, the C1 is powered by a water-cooled four-stroke single – available in 125cc and 200cc capacities - and equipped with continuously variable 'automatic' transmission. The front suspension is of the Telelever type found on BMW's large-capacity twin-cylinder roadsters and there are disc brakes on both wheels. Top speed is around 62mph.
In addition to the base model there were a further three versions with varying levels of equipment: Family's Friend, Executive and Williams, the latter incorporating all the additional features of the other types and available in 200cc form only. The 'Williams' designation was a reference to the Williams Formula 1 team, which at that time were powered by BMW engines. The Williams' C1's special livery was inspired by that of their contemporary F1 car.
The private vendor purchased this C1 online from 'Unit 56 Motorcycles' in June 2015 (online listing on file). The listing stated that it has been used by BMW Park Lane. The old MoT on file was issued in June 2015 at 12,346 miles, while the odometer reading at the time of cataloguing/photography was 12,347 miles.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's history, originality, authenticity, mechanical condition, mileage and completeness (or otherwise) prior to bidding.
