• Ducati 916 from the first year of production
• Long term ownership of 26 years
• Maintained by independent Ducati specialists Baines Racing
Ducati's new 916 stunned the motorcycle world when it first appeared. Its beautiful lines, iconic slim headlights, under-the-seat silencers, single sided swingarm, and three spoke wheels all combined to make it a design classic which has stood the test of time. It still looks sublime over thirty years later. However, its beauty was more than skin deep: the 916 and its racing derivatives won four World Superbike championships in five years between 1994 and 1998.
This example is from the first year of production being first registered in August 1994. The Cagiva elephant logo on the tank cap may indicate that it's from one of the early batches manufactured at Cagiva's factory in Varese. An HPI check revealed that between February 1997 and January 1998 it was registered GBZ 993 (a Gibraltar plate), before being brought back to the UK and re-issued with its original M926 JVP registration number. The vendor acquired it in May 2000 and is parting with it now only because of his advancing years. Throughout his ownership of 26 years it has been looked after by long term independent Ducati specialists Baines Racing, and a substantial quantity of their invoices is supplied covering the period from 2000 onwards. Also supplied are a V5C registration certificate, an older V5, numerous MOT certificates which include a current one expiring in February 2027, and a Ducati 916 Owner's Manual. It should be noted that the V5C records the frame number as DM916S1001828, and the engine number as 001653.
The vendor says that 'it has always been serviced by Baines Racing with genuine Ducati parts with no expense spared' and added 'Don't touch the throttle when starting it!' We are told that Ducati's latest cambelts have a maximum life of five years. The current ones were fitted in March 2024 and were checked and approved by Geoff Baines when the 916 had its most recent service in February this year. Geoff told us 'it's a very honest bike'.
Prospective bidders must satisfy themselves regarding the motorcycle's provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. Sold strictly as seen. Two ignition keys and one tank cap key are supplied.
