• 'Tricolore' bodywork, plus originals
• Low mileage Desmoquattro model
Produced by Ducati from 1995, the 748 was, in many respects identical to the 916. The 916 produced large amounts of power, and was originally developed as a 748 engine, so the manufacture of a similar bike with more manageable power output seemed entirely logical. With the Desmoquattro engine, it was available in Strada, Biposto, and SP variations, the latter being a homologation special for Supersport racing. Having different tyre sizes to the 916, the very similar engines feature a smaller bore and stroke to the 916, to achieve the smaller capacity. Resulting performance is a top speed of 159 mph for the 916, compared to 149 mph for the 748.
Purchased by the vendor in 2007, P989 TNP was in regular use until 2015, along with other machines in his stable. After a period of storage, the vendor tasked a specialist to re-commission the bike and the fuel system was overhauled, and new cambelts were fitted. Some years ago, the owner fitted the 'Tricolore' bodywork seen in place now, although it also comes with all the original red bodywork which has been carefully stored and remains in good condition. A new battery was fitted in July 2026. Now advancing in years, the vendor feels it is time to pass the 748 on to a new owner who can use the bike on a more regular basis.
Documentation comprises a current V5C, an old V5C, an old V5, a quantity of expired MoTs, various invoices, a workshop manual, the owner's manual, service booklet, accessories brochure, and sundry papers. Presently on SORN. A rear wheel stand is included, and 2 sets of keys are present.
