Launched as the Triumph T595 Daytona, the British factory's top-of-the-range sports bike was renamed Daytona 955i in 1999. Triumph's first attempt at a cutting edge superbike, the T595 Daytona had arrived at the start of 1997 and was an immediate success, despite being pitched against Honda's FireBlade and Ducati's 916. In a nod to the old Triumph company's heritage, and drawing on the Hinckley firm's more recent experience, the new Daytona was a triple. Displacing 955cc, the fuel-injected 12-valve engine produced around 105-110bhp at the rear wheel, matching the FireBlade while having a character all of its own - the aggressive growl of the Triumph's brilliant three-cylinder engine is like nothing else on the road. The Daytona's looks were something special too, combining voluptuous curves with a Spondon-like aluminium frame, single-sided swinging arm and three-spoke alloy wheels. Top speed was around 160mph.
In 1999 the Daytona was upgraded with a new Sagem ECU and new throttle bodies, injectors and fuel rail, while the change of name to 955i removed any confusion concerning the engine capacity.
For 2002 the T955i was completely restyled and received an extensively revised engine incorporating a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel con-rods, and a forged aluminium pistons. Claimed maximum power went up to 147bhp at the crank. On the chassis side, the 955i received a conventional - and lighter - double-sided swinging arm, replacing the single-sided original, although the latter was swiftly reinstated. There were limited-production Centennial Edition (CE) and Special Edition (SE) models before production ceased in 2006, by which time the frame, silver painted until then, had been painted black.
This 955i was purchased by the late owner from ritebike of Bradford in 2016. No previous history is known. Used sparingly and dry stored for the last few years, the machine will require recommissioning - including a new battery - before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. The Triumph is offered from a private collection of motorcycles which were run regularly up to 2022 when the late owner's ill health prevented any further work or use. All of the machines were purchased from dealers and had been fully serviced prior to joining the collection. None have been ridden since they were confined to storage apart from a short trip to a local show where they were displayed. Accompanying documentation includes a V5C Registration Certificate; the 2016 purchase receipt; some expired MoTs; an owner's manual; and a service handbook.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
