This Lot has arrived in the UK from overseas under Temporary Admission. Shippio Ltd must automatically uplift this Lot after the auction, complete all post sale import or export customs administration, and store this Lot until it is customs cleared. A compulsory fee of £350 + VAT will be added to the buyer's invoice for this. This Lot cannot be collected from the auction venue by the purchaser or any alternative transporter.
If the Lot is to stay in the UK or is not exported within 90 days of sale, Import VAT at 5% on the hammer price is payable.
Since its first introduction in 1959 as the TD1, Yamaha's 250cc over-the-counter racer had been further developed through models TD1A and TD1B before arriving at the TD1C in 1967. Arguably the newcomer's most significant development was its clutch, which was now mounted on the gearbox main-shaft rather than the crankshaft, thus eliminating a source of numerous failures in the heat of competition. The cylinders now boasted mildly revised porting while Yamaha had yet another stab at making a better exhaust. Boasting a maximum output of 38bhp at 10,000rpm, the TD1C was well represented at the traditional season-opener, the Daytona 200, winning the '250' class and filling five of the top six places, while across 'The Pond', TD1C-mounted Derek Chatterton took that year's British Championship.
This TD1C appears to be in age related condition, although the presence of unstamped TD2/TD2B crankcases suggests that the engine at least may have been restored (the engine turns over).
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
