This Lot has arrived in the UK from overseas under Temporary Admission. A compulsory fee of £350 + VAT will be added to the buyer's invoice for this. This Lot cannot be collected from the auction venue by the purchaser or any alternative transporter.
If the Lot is to stay in the UK or is not exported within 90 days of sale, Import VAT at 5% on the hammer price is payable.
"Yamaha saw that there was a major market for a dual-purpose machine, one able to perform well on the road but equally able to run off-road for fun or in competition. Thus came the trail machine, which was able to compete in enduros or simply take its owner up the hills for the view. Small, light and handy, it could go many places without tiring the rider..." - Roy Bacon, The Illustrated Motorcycle Legends – Yamaha.
One of Yamaha's smallest offerings in the emerging trail market was the 90cc HT1/HT2, which was built for just two seasons: in 1970 (HT1) and 1971 (HT2). According to Yamaha: "This trail model was powered by a 2-stroke, 90cc single-cylinder engine. Despite its smaller displacement, it had the same concept and design as the DT1 to build upon the off-road series of models and boasted a full array of equipment and solid performance. It came with a complete line of motocross kit parts and became popular as an entry-level model for young people out to enjoy trail riding."
This example of one of Yamaha's earliest small trail models displays a total of 1 kilometre on the odometer (believed to be since restoration) and is presented in apparently 'like new' condition (the engine turns over). (It would appear that the unnumbered crankcases are either non-matching replacement units or, potentially, original Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cases, as engine cases supplied in Japan were reportedly sometimes left unnumbered).
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
