1948 Reliant 'Regent' 747cc Trade Van
Registration no. GGA 314
Frame no. 460918 (to applied plaque)
Engine no. 2861 (to applied plaque)

Purchased in Torquay by our private vendor, this Reliant van required a lot of work to make it useable again. The van had been used to advertise the Portpatrick Pottery for many years, finished in red and sign-written appropriately. Research undertaken by the private vendor revealed that the van was first registered in Glasgow and had been painted green.

The restoration commenced with removal of the body and replacement of some of the aluminium panels and any rotten timbers. All seams were sealed and most of the original beading reused. The van was then repainted in green and given a new Everflex roof covering. The 6-volt electrics were rewired and flashing indicators added. Other notable features include a new starter motor, battery, regulator and exhaust.

The gearbox is a 'crash' three-speeder. The rear wheels were re-spoked some years ago, while the front wheel does have a few thin spokes. The brakes are said to be very good. According to our private vendor, everything seems to work ok, but running has been restricted to his drive so further fettling/recommissioning may be required before returning to the road. Although not concours, this charming delivery van - ideal for promotional purposes - is ready to be sign-written to the next owner's choice. Offered with a file of useful information.
