• Under 1600 miles from new
• Kept in climate controlled 'Carcoon'
The Harley Davidson Sportster XL was introduced in 1957, and was a variation of the flathead model KH, but with overhead valves, bigger bores, and shorter strokes. The first Sportsters were 883cc, fitted with cast iron cylinder heads and, apart from racing versions, remained so until 1986. The original XLs were not hugely more powerful than the forerunner KH, but formed an excellent basis for tuning for increased power, and became a popular model. In 1958 the XL was joined by the XLH, XLC, and the XLCH, which were a higher state of tune for those with sporting aspirations or a need for just a little more go. The Sportster has remained in Harley's range from 1957 to the present day with various engine sizes. Released in European markets in 2008, the XR1200 is noted as being the first Harley model to be fitted with fuel injection, a new chassis, twin front discs with four-pot calipers, XR cylinder heads, upside-down forks, and alloy swinging arm.
YS10 FCP, finished in Pewter Pearl, was purchased new by the private owner, and used for limited mileage only, in fine weather, covering less than 1600 miles from new. It has been part of the owner's private collection, and kept in a climate-controlled 'Carcoon'. It was last MoT'd in July 2016, and has only covered the mileage back from the MoT station since then. Having remained unused since that time, the vendor advises that it will now require a new battery, and some re-commissioning, safety checks, and a fresh MoT prior to use by a new owner and is therefore sold strictly as viewed. It should also be noted that it is overdue for its first service, which was due at 1000 miles. The Harley is now being sold only due to the vendor's age. Documentation comprises a current V5C, some expired MoT certificates, the original bill of sale, and original handbook.
