THE TRUCK OFFERED

This pickup is an early example of the sixth-generation F-100, introduced in 1973 and known to collectors as the "Dent side" for the pressed character line running the length of each body side. New for 1973 was a wider, more squared-off front end, a taller grille, and a more pronounced clamshell hood with reinforced internal bracing to reduce shake. The redesigned bodysides also relocated the front turn signals above the headlamps for the first time in Ford light-truck history, and the fuel tank was moved from behind the cab to beneath the bed floor as a safety measure — a change requiring a longer, wider frame and revised rear leaf springs to suit. The wheelbase grew two inches over the prior generation, and the new Style side bed was billed at the time as the widest in the industry. Underneath, Ford carried over the proven chassis and Twin-I-Beam independent front suspension dating to 1965, prioritizing continuity and durability even as the cab and sheet metal were thoroughly modernized.

This example is further optioned in Ranger XLT trim, the range-topping specification for 1973 and the F-100's most comfort-oriented offering. Ranger XLT equipment included color-keyed quilted cloth-and-vinyl seat upholstery, wood-tone-accented door panels and instrument-panel trim, wall-to-wall color-keyed carpeting with a carpeted behind-seat storage area, additional sound insulation, a color-keyed vinyl headliner, and a "Convenience Group" comprising cargo, engine, and glovebox lighting, a lockable glovebox, and a day/night inside mirror — appointments that, at the time, brought F-Series comfort levels closer to a Ford sedan than to a traditional work truck.

According to its door tag, this F-100 was manufactured in November 1972, an early-production example for the 1973 model year, and was assembled at Ford's San Jose, California plant. The VIN decodes to a 2-wheel-drive F-100 originally equipped with the 360ci V8. GVWR is rated at 5,000 lbs., with front and rear axle weight ratings of 2,850 and 2,836 lbs. respectively.

Preserved well beyond what is typical for surviving examples of the era, the truck has been sympathetically fitted with a Kelsey-Hayes automatic electric trailer brake controller, a Pioneer AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo, and Sparkomatic speakers, presenting a genuine survivor that remains fully ready to work.
