LAMBORGHINI MURCIÉLAGO

Successor to the Diablo and Lamborghini's flagship model, the Murciélago 'hypercar' was introduced in 2001 for the 2002 model year, and like its forebears was named after a famous fighting bull. The Murciélago was Lamborghini's first new design for 11 years and the Italian company's first since its acquisition by the Volkswagen Group's Audi division in 1998. Audi's input ensured that build quality was of the highest, while the manufacturing time was cut from the Diablo's 500 hours to a much more profitable 300. Features identified as key to the Lamborghini brand were retained, so the Murciélago came with a mid-mounted V12 engine, cab-forward layout, scissor-action doors, and all-wheel drive.

Styled by Lamborghini's head of design Luc Donckerwolke, the angular coupé was very low, boasting a roof height of just under 47.2 inches, and featured distinctive doors that swung upwards and forwards when opened. A combination of carbon fiber, steel and aluminum was used for the chassis/body, while the suspension featured the supercar-standard double wishbones all round. The Murciélago's power unit was a longitudinally mounted 6.2-liter V12, an engine that could trace its ancestry back to the very first Lamborghini of 1964. As installed in the Murciélago, this formidable power unit produced 572bhp, which was delivered to the ground via a six-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive, while an active rear wing and active air intakes, deployed automatically when required, helped keep the Murciélago stable at its circa 200mph top speed.

To demonstrate that that all-important top speed claim was no idle boast, Lamborghini test driver Giorgio Sanna set a number of class records at the Nardo test track in Italy, covering 100 miles at an average speed of 320.254km/h (198.996mph) despite less than ideal weather conditions. Autocar's Stephen Sutcliffe declared that the Murciélago's arrival "makes the Diablo seem old and slow".

THE CAR OFFERED

This 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago Coupe is one of just 424 examples produced with a 'gated' 6-speed manual transmission. Originally delivered to Symbolic Motor Company of La Jolla, California, showing just over 9K miles, this Murcielago has only had 2x owners since new.

Finished in Nero Pegaso (Black Metallic) over Nero Perseus (Black) Leather with Red Contrast Stitching, the cabin offers both performance focus and premium comfort. Amenities include hydraulic front lift, automatic climate control, and a CD Changer.

Paint protection film covers the front bumper, hood, fenders, side skirts, and rear quarters, complemented by sport catalytic converters, a titanium exhaust system, and 18-inch Speedline multi-piece wheels framing black-painted Lamborghini-script brake calipers.

The vehicle includes multiple keys, tools, car cover, seat covers, owners' manuals, original window sticker, and battery tender.

With 9,269 miles since new, this 'Gated' 6-Speed Manual Lamborghini Murcielago is destined to be a future-classic for enthusiasts and collectors.
