The 1976 Nurburgring German Grand Prix 'attempted boycott' driver signed document, including signatures for Niki Lauda & James Hunt,
Lauda raised the meeting to boycott the event owing to fears and concerns that organizers could not properly staff or manage safety over such a massive layout, noting a severe shortage of fire marshals, medical staff, and helicopters, especially with rain forecast. This lead to the boycott proposal that Lauda called for not going through, falling one vote short. The race then went ahead, when Lauda infamously crashed on lap 2. Lauda would return to the Monza Grand Prix just 42 days after his near-death accident, which is arguably one of the most talked about sporting comebacks.
