"The Volante is the new soft-top version of the Virage incorporating the latest changes made to the full Aston range. Beautiful hand-built craftsmanship abounds in this most aristocratic of convertibles." - Fast Lane.

Premiered at the London Motor Show in October 1998 was one of the most elegant of modern-day Aston Martins: the long-wheelbase Volante convertible. Built on a wheelbase not shared with any other V8 Aston, this longer Volante benefited from a 200mm stretch that increased rear passenger legroom and luggage space. The last production Volantes built at Newport Pagnell, these cars came with a quoted 354bhp on tap; the factory claimed a 0-60mph time of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph, making the LWB Volante one of the world's fastest soft-tops. Given the £169,500 asking price, it is perhaps not surprising that by the time production of Aston Martin's long-running V8 ceased in 2000, only 64 of these exclusive, last-of-the-line Volantes had been built compared with 234 of the standard shorter-wheelbase version.

'R425 PPE' was registered on 28th May 1998 as the Aston Martin Production Department's own Show Car and subsequently only released by them in June 1998 to Stratstones of Mayfair, who sold it later the same year. With five owners from new (including Aston Martin and, later, two members of the same family) 'R425 PPE' was acquired by the current owner in June 2025 from the previous custodian who had kept the car in professional storage.

Having covered under 7,000 miles when purchased by the current owner, the car has now covered 8,500 miles and is believed to remain the lowest-mileage V8 Volante LWB in existence. During 2025 and 2026 'R425 PPE' underwent extensive refurbishment with Vantage Engineering, which returned this exquisite long-distance tourer to the road with an immaculate unmarked green mohair hood and excellent powerful air conditioning, just as it was designed to be.

According to our vendor, the car drives beautifully, is exceptionally comfortable and, unusually for a drophead, has a most substantial boot which can swallow large amounts of luggage for trips away. The original CD player, navigation and audio system is fully operational and wonderfully 1990s in design and operation.

The car comes with a build sheet; invoice to Aston Martin (Show Car); current MoT; V5C Registration Certificate; the original service book with all stamps; and records of works carried out by Aston Martin Works in 2015 (over £9,000) and the extensive recommissioning in 2025/2026 (£35,000).
