1971 Rover P5B Coupé Project

1971 Rover P5B Coupé Project
Registration no. WWU 164J
Chassis no. 84600408D
Engine no. 84014747D

Introduced in 1967, the 3½-litre V8-engined P5B was considerably quicker than its six-cylinder P5 predecessor, the V8's 140-plus horsepower boosting top speed to 110mph and chopping 7 seconds off the 0-60mph time. Automatic transmission and power-assisted steering were standard features of a car that combined much improved performance with the luxury and refinement customers had long since come to expect in a Rover. The stylish low-roofline Coupé version proved almost as popular as the saloon and today is regarded as the most collectible of the 3/3½-litre Rovers.

The late owner bought this matching-numbers P5B from Ireland in 2019 as a stalled project that had had most of the bodywork and structural work attended to. Highlights of the works carried out to date are as follows:

Engine and gearbox rebuilt
Climate-controlled air conditioning installed
Electric windows fitted
Interior re-trim (just a few panels left to do, such as the rear parcel shelf)
New seat belts front and rear
New carpet set
Polished woodwork
Numerous new parts (see extensive spreadsheet on file)

Unfortunately, the project is unfinished due to the owner's passing and the car has been stored for the last two years. This project has all the potential to become an outstanding P5B upon completion. Please note that the; windscreens are not on the car and will not be transported to the sale.
