"Epitomising the glamour and excitement of the swinging 60s, the Jaguar E-type was described by Enzo Ferrari as 'the most beautiful car ever made'.
"And nearly 60 years later, our Jaguar Reborn programme will see a selection of Series 1 E-types restored to their former glory for future generations of collectors to enjoy." - Jaguar Land Rover.

Over the years since the E-Type ceased production, numerous specialist companies have emerged devoted to restoring and improving Jaguar's most iconic model, but it must nevertheless have come as quite a surprise to many enthusiasts when the factory announced its intention of doing likewise. To support the project, Jaguar Land Rover set up a dedicated Classic Works facility, catering not only for the E-Type but also the Series I Land Rover; E-Type Lightweight continuation; XKSS; and the early Range Rover models. Unlike that of the new-build Lightweight and XKSS, the E-Type programme uses existing cars, with the USA's West Coast being a productive source of relatively rust-free original examples.

According to Jaguar: "Every E-type Reborn restoration is flawlessly produced according to its original 1960s factory specification. Unique access to build records and original drawings held by the Jaguar Heritage Trust, combined with the team's experience in restoration and our world class facilities at Classic Works, ensure absolute authenticity. Jaguar Classic Parts are used throughout and re-engineered where required using the latest CAD techniques. This maximises the vehicle's quality, longevity and collectability."

Sensible updates are permitted; for example, the electrical system now features electronic ignition, a high-torque starter motor and a Dynator, the latter providing a modern and more reliable charging system while retaining the classic look of the original dynamo.

The accompanying JHT certificate reveals that this car was competed on 11th April 1962 as a left-hand drive Coupé finished in Carmen Red with Black trim, distributed by Jaguar Cars New York. The Reborn specification was chosen in January 2019 at a cost of £300,000 and included the following options:

Suspension upgrade kit (including adjustable shock absorbers)
4-pot brake calliper upgrade
Window-mounted exterior mirrors
Upgraded classic radio with satnav
Air conditioning
Power steering
Wider wheels
Stainless exhaust
Fitted car cover

Since delivery the E-Type has received a major service at Jaguar Classic in 2023 at 2,214 miles costing £3,500; and a second service by Jaguar Classic in June 2025 at 3,108 miles costing £11,000, which included installation of an aftermarket five-speed gearbox (original 4-speed is supplied). The comprehensive history file contains the following:

Current V5C Registration Certificate
Sales brochure
Photographically illustrated book of the build
Jaguar Classic Service & Maintenance book, Handbook, Infotainment instructions
