Introduced in response to customers' demands for such a car, the Volante convertible first appeared in June 1978. Arguably the ultimate in soft-top luxury, the newcomer boasted a lined, power-operated hood which, when erected, endowed the walnut embellished interior with all the solidity and refinement associated with the saloon version. Although its open-car aerodynamics meant that top speed suffered with the hood down, the Volante's 150mph maximum nevertheless ranked it among the world's fastest convertibles. V8 Volante chassis numbers ran from '15001' to '15849', a total of 849 cars.

Finished in Balmoral Green with green-piped parchment leather interior, this automatic-transmission Volante has been in the current (third) owner's hands since he purchased the car from Bonhams' sale at Aston Martin Works Service in May 2007 (Lot 225). Previous custodian Finn Simonsen of Henley-on-Thames had owned the Volante since 1991. Numerous MoTs on file record the mileage increasing from 43,877 miles in April 2008 to circa 61,000 now.

When purchased in 2007 the car came with full-service history (relating to Mr Simonsen's period of ownership) at recognised specialists Hoffman's of Henley; AML Ltd, Buckinghamshire; and Ian Mason Aston Martin Services, London. This service history remains on file.

While in the vendor's care the Aston has been serviced by HWM and AMWS. In 2011 HWM carried out repairs to the sills, jacking points and wing bottoms at a cost of £15,000, while later that same year a further £9,000 was spent at AMWS on chassis repairs and work on the transmission, brakes and hubs. In 2013 AMWS carried out another major service costing £5,000.

Later in 2013 further work was undertaken by marque specialists Trinity Engineering, who have been responsible for the car's upkeep ever since, generally on an annual basis (see all bills on file). In 2014 the gearbox was upgraded to improve changes and shift sequence, while in 2021 further bodywork repairs (to the scuttle) were carried out at a cost of £10,000. The most recent service was undertaken in June 2025 at 60,221 miles. It should be noted that the Volante benefits from an engine conversion to 'unleaded' compatibility, undertaken by Works Service in 2000, and has been fitted with a vehicle tracker.
