1931 Austin Seven 'Ulster Replica' Sports

1931 Austin Seven 'Ulster Replica' Sports
Registration no. not registered (previous UK registration number DK 7436)
Chassis no. B4-1384

• One of only 168 made
• Highly desirable supercharged model
• Hydraulic brakes conversion
• Works-style external fuel filler

One of the most delightful small sports cars of the 1930s was the Austin Seven Ulster, 168 of which were built between 1930 and 1932. Like the preceding Super Sports, the Ulster used a tuned and strengthened engine equipped with gear-driven Cozette 'blower' (in which case it also came with magneto ignition and pumped cooling) but unlike its predecessor could also be ordered in cheaper, normally aspirated form. The chassis was 3" lower than standard and featured improved front suspension, while the door-less coachwork, with its sleek lines and pointed tail, was even more handsome than the Super Sports'.

This particular Ulster special appears to have an original-style supercharger. The engine is noted as 858cc on the HPI report, which may be a clerical error or reference to a transplanted Reliant engine. The HPI records the last change of ownership (in the UK) as 3rd April 1992. The car seems to be on trials springs as sits quite high, and there is unusual 'X' bracing under the chassis. Hydraulic brakes have been fitted, replacing the original cable type. The body looks a little more angular than most so may not be original. The works-style external fuel filler in the bonnet is particularly worthy of note, saving you having to open the bonnet when refuelling. The car also has an external oil filter. Accompanying paperwork consist of numerous of Japanese magazine articles and an old style 'Buff' logbook.
