Originally marketing its products under the 'Datson' name, the company that would produce Datsun cars was taken over in June 1934 by Nissan, who continue to own the brand today. The first Datson car had appeared in August 1931, becoming a Datsun the following year. This first model was based on the Austin Seven, albeit with a smaller (495cc) engine, worm final drive and semi-elliptic rear suspension. Saloon, tourer and roadster versions were available, and around 150 cars were sold in 1932. In 1933, the Japanese government relaxed the rules restricting engine capacity, and for 1935 the Datsun power unit was enlarged to 722cc, making the chassis more suitable for light commercial purposes. After Japan invaded China in 1937, passenger car production was restricted, and by 1938 Datsun's Yokohama factory was concentrating on manufacturing vehicles for the Imperial Japanese Army.

This Datsun Roadster is offered as a restoration project and sold strictly as viewed. The only documentation is some photographically illustrated paperwork showing the car 'as found', with text in Japanese.
