c.1976 Suzuki Fronte Coupé

c.1976 Suzuki Fronte Coupé
Registration no. Not UK registered
Chassis no. LC10W-323272

Based on the Suzulight van, the first of Suzuki's Fronte family arrived in March 1962 in the form of the Suzulight TLA saloon. The latter was built to conform with the Japanese government's kei car regulations, which placed limits on a vehicle's physical size, engine capacity and performance. Intended for use within Japan's crowded city centres, the affordable kei cars enjoyed lower tax and insurance rates and were popular with elderly and novice motorists alike.

There had already been two generations of Suzuki's highly successful Fronte when the next generation arrived in November 1970. Known as the 'Sting Ray', it was extensively restyled but retained its predecessors' rear-mounted twin-cylinder two-stroke engine. Updates to the running gear included a front anti-roll bar and semi-trailing arm rear suspension. Various power outputs were available depending on the model, and in May 1971 a water-cooled engine (LC10W) became available in either 34bhp or 37bhp specification. Later that same year Suzuki introduced the two-seater Fronte Coupé with the LC10W engine. The Coupé was the work of Italian master stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro and based on his 'Rowan Electrica' city car of 1967, albeit extensively revised by Suzuki. Four-seater models became available later as the two-seaters were phased out. Production ceased in June 1976.

This example is offered with a handbook, service books and various original documents in Japanese.
