Michelin House Stained Glass Windows – London – Bibendum

Set of two large-scale reproductions of the stained glass windows that once adorned the Michelin House in London, created after the famous posters "Le Coup de semelle" and "Pneu Vélo Michelin." These compositions feature the character Bibendum, created in 1898 by O'Galop (Marius Rossillon, 1867–1946).

One panel depicts the Michelin Bibendum, cigar in mouth, presenting his studded sole; the other shows him riding a bicycle while smoking a cigar. Produced by an Italian workshop, these works stand out for their vivid colours and exceptional quality of execution. Each stained glass panel is protected by a front glass pane and housed within a reinforced metal frame.

The Michelin House, inaugurated on 20 January 1911, served as the first British headquarters and tyre depot of Michelin Tyre Company Ltd. During the Second World War, due to the bombing of London, the original stained glass windows were dismantled in the 1940s and were never recovered after the war.

Michelin vacated the building in 1985, when it was acquired and converted into the Bibendum Restaurant & Oyster Bar.

On the occasion of the building's centenary in 2011, the event was celebrated by the occupants at the time—the Bibendum Restaurant and The Conran Shop—as well as by Michelin, the former owner. In this context, Michelin renewed efforts to locate the original stained glass windows, establishing a dedicated website and telephone line, highlighting the importance of these works to the company's heritage.

Dimensions: height 208 cm; 148 × 50 cm.
