That a major US manufacturer could come up with such an exciting concept car was startling enough, but Chrysler's decision to put the Viper into production was nothing short of astonishing. Inspired, as its name suggests, by the legendary Cobra, Tom Gale's design study made its auto-show debut in 1989, its appearance triggering an avalanche of deposit cheques. Without doubt, a large part of the Viper's 'back to basics' appeal stemmed from its unique selling point: a massively powerful 8.0-litre V10 engine. Despite being relatively 'low-tech', the Lamborghini-developed pushrod V10 churned out 400bhp and a brutal 450lb/ft of torque, good enough for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 265 km/h. Early Vipers lack modern driver aids such as traction control and anti-lock brakes. Early cars also have the rear antenna mounted visible.

This Dodge Viper RT/10 is one of 285 produced for the 1992 model year. Formerly registered in Florida, it was imported into the EU in 2025 and currently displays a total of only 9,000 miles on the odometer. No accidents or other damage are mentioned in the Carfax report, and the car also comes with US title/registration documents and proof of EU duty paid. Reportedly, the brake pads, battery and fuel pump were replaced in 2024, and it should be noted that the car comes freshly serviced in 2026.
