THE CHEVROLET IMPALA

Originally applied to two-door hardtop coupe and convertible versions of Chevrolet's Bel Air in 1958, the Impala name was subsequently used in its own right to signify a top-of-the-range luxury trim level rather than a separate and distinct body style. Marketed as 'All New, All Over Again', Chevrolets were altogether more modern in appearance every year during this period, growing longer, lower and wider than the year before.

The 1958 Impala was Chevy's prestige car that year with around 55,000 sold and its own over-the-top trim package, including the "pitchfork" on the rear fenders, and the spinner hubcaps. The new 348 cubic-inch motor was side of the body was derived from a truck engine and generated up to 315 horsepower with triple carburetors, though owners grumbled about 9mpg.

THE CAR OFFERED

The Impala was offered with a mind-boggling array of engine, transmission, and trim options from a meager straight six to a rip-roaring big block. This example has been chosen with the modern solution. Fitted with the proven fuel injected LS3 V8 engine from Chevrolet, having 430hp of reliable power was an easy choice for this custom build. Linked to a Ford 9-inch rear end via a 4L60 automatic transmission with B&M shifter for ease of cruising, the engine has been topped with a few performance adders to ensure sound performance and an enjoyable driving experience. Spent exhaust gases exit through the rear of the cars custom dual exhaust system.

This exquisite early Impala was the recipient of a comprehensive body-off restoration. The entire vehicle gone through; no stone was left untouched. The entire chassis and undercarriage have been finished while the body has been finely smoothed. Painted in the very vibrant Immersion blue pearl, the color really gives the car a modern, yet classy look. The car also received all new glass as well as all new chrome throughout. Inside, the leather interior is finely trimmed in white with custom touch throughout as well as a custom fitted center console. Outfitted with a modernized radio, the car was also fitted with a 'Vintage Air' air conditioning system as well as equipped with power windows.

Other improvements have been made for better drivability, safety as well as aesthetics. The car sits on height adjustable airbag suspension giving a comfortable ride while also allowing the driver to control the height from the driver's seat. This gives the best of both worlds allowing a comfortable ride at a decent ride height, while able to air out when parked at an extremely low stance. The car is fitted with power steering, and an oversized Mattson's aluminum radiator for ease with driving on warmer days.

This first year Impala has had all the right parts to be a formidable cruiser, show car, streetcar. This wonderfully built classic shouldn't be overlooked and would complement even the most discerning collections.
