As one of the most iconic cars of the 20th century and with over 21 million built, the Volkswagen Beetle needs no introduction. There's a Beetle for every occasion, but surely the most fun must be the Cabriolet. A drop-top Beetle was in series production by Karmann as early as 1949, but it is the happy-go-lucky cabriolets of the 1960s and 70s that are most well-known. Such was the degree of modification required that only half of the body panels are shared with the coupé, with structural strengthening added and taller doors and rear quarters employed. The Karmann Cabriolet largely tracked the development of the Beetle, gaining the 1300cc flat-four in 1966 and the 1500cc in 1967. The biggest changes came with the introduction of the Super Beetle in 1970, when the Cabriolet gained a 1600cc motor, the more modern MacPherson strut front-end, and an independent trailing-arm rear. Karmann built some 331,847 Cabriolets before production ended in January 1980, outliving the German-built coupé by two years.
This 1977 Volkwswagen Beetle 1303 has been delivered new in Dortmund in 1977. Bought by the current owner in 1979, it has then been modified and registered with a 1995cc engine. Finished in dark green metallic over a beige vinyl interior, this Beetle would require recommissioning prior to use due to years of static display in the owner's private collection. This Volkswagen will be sold with its Fahrzeugbrief; its Abmeldebescheinigung; an expert report from 1984 and different documents dated from the 1980s.
