In the early 1980s Ferdinand Piëch had a vision for Audi centred around the use of Quattro all-wheel drive with advanced lightweight aluminium monocoques to offset the additional weight. The A8 flagship was chosen to debut this technology, developed at astounding cost, and was one of the most accomplished luxury saloons at its February 1994 launch. A long wheelbase version was made available, and in 2001 Audi shoehorned its new 5998cc W12 petrol engine into the A8, bringing a herculean 414 bhp and creating the world's most powerful saloon in the process. Its 550 Nm of torque, available from just 3500rpm, created a two-tonne behemoth capable of reaching 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and able to nudge its 250 km/h limiter from rest in just 38. Out of a total production run of over 105,000 first series A8s, it is thought that just 750 were fitted with the W12 engine.
This Audi A8L W12 was purchased new through VAG agent Rudolf Petzold Lehrte in 2001. Fitted with numerous equipment, this A8 is finished in Andorra red pearl assorted with a beige leather interior. Coming with its original booklets, its service book indicates that the car showed 5,858 km in 2003; 34,501 km in 2004; 60,648 in 2008. The current owner bought the Audi during this period and in 2010, the car was showing 65,393km when it was last inspected by the Dekra organism. Showing today 68,044 km on the odometer and having been in static display in the current owner's collection during the last years, this Audi A8 L W12 will require recommissioning before being driven.
Accompanying its full booklet, the car will also be sold with different Dekra inspection documents.
