1932 Matchless 245cc 'Model D/S' OHV Project
Registration no. JO 3906
Frame no. 1081
Engine no. 71 DS 662
Following the then fashionable trend for engines with sloping cylinders, Matchless introduced four new models for 1931: the 245cc model D/S, 348cc model D, 491cc C/S, and 583cc model C; the /S models being overhead-valve designs while the others has side valves. Cycle parts were entirely conventional for the day. Model designation of the OHV '250' changed to D2 for 1932 and the type was last catalogued for 1934, while the final 'sloper' models went in 1937.
This rare Matchless D/S was first registered on 2nd January 1932 and was purchased by late owner in 1976. The machine is offered as a dismantled project requiring complete restoration and is sold strictly as viewed. All major tinware appears to be present but the gearbox is missing.
