Footnotes

David Pollard developed his driving skills in the RAF whilst doing his national service, leaving in 1959 where he returned to the family textile and engineering business in Yorkshire. From 1960 he started club rallying across the UK, self-funding with an ex-works Sunbeam Alpine and he quickly built a successful series of wins and reputation. He then moved to racing in a Sunbeam Rapier.
He was spotted by the Roots/Sunbeam racing team and became a works driver alongside Peter Harper, Tiny Lewis, Paddy Hopkirk where he then moved into the International Rally scene, notching up many successful drives.
During this period, he was also given permission to drive for Ford, in Ford Mustangs and also for Vauxhall.
In 1968 he and Peter Harper did the London to Sydney Rally.
As the Works Rally team disbanded he returned to Bradford, bought a car dealership and was one of the first BMW dealerships in the UK, later adding Saab and Alfa Romeo
