Lot 84

1949 Velocette 150cc LE

1949 Velocette 150cc LE
Registration no. FCO 290
Frame no. 3739 (to plaque)
Engine no. 3762

Introduced in 1948 as a 150cc machine, the LE Velocette was a complete departure from normal motorcycle development. Being a water cooled, flat twin, side valve , shaft drive and monocoque chassis all at the same time could be seen as perverseness, but Velocette had never been a company to follow the herd. Enlarged to 192cc for 1951, it had a model run of over 20 years.

This September '49 model was purchased by the current vendor in 2023 from the Bonhams Autumn Stafford sale (Lot 245). Used sparingly but otherwise kept in dry storage. Last run in April 2025. Bearing a tax disc from 1953. Accompanying documents include RF60 continuation logbook (issued 1949); current V5C document; old V5; and sundry DVLA correspondence. The machine also comes with a spare windscreen.
