The most important 'tweak' Triumph made to the Trophy/Bonneville frame was for the 1967 mod-el year, when a shallower steering head angle was adopted in the interests of better high-speed sta-bility. By this time Triumph's two 650 sports roadsters had been updated with 12-volt electrics and a full-width 8" front brake, while other significant improvements for 1967 included a new oil pump and an increase in the Trophy's compression ratio to 9.0:1, same as the Bonneville's. There were further mechanical updates for '68, the most obvious being the adoption of an 8" twin-leading-shoe front brake, universally recognised as one of the best around. The engine got inde-pendently adjustable ignition points and Amal Concentric carburetters, while the suspension was improved courtesy of a new shuttle-valve front fork. The Trophy was later renamed TR6R or Tiger 650.

Former factory Experimental Department engineer Norman Hyde is well known in Triumph circles, having played an important part in developing the famous Triples before leaving to run his Norman Hyde Ltd parts and accessories business from 1976 to 2016. Norman Hyde purchased this Tiger 650 in 2019 from fellow former Triumph employee and noted restorer Clive Humphries, one of whose post-Meriden ventures was reimporting original and unrestored Triumphs from North America.

In its March 2021 edition, Classic Bike magazine published an article about two of Clive's discoveries, this TR6R Tiger 650 and a TR6R Trophy, which he had reimported from California in 2012. For Clive, the appeal of these two Triumphs was their outstanding originality, even down to the various types of fastenings used. The Tiger currently displays a total of 22,362 miles on the odometer, which appears to be genuine although Norman cannot be sure. Dry stored, the machine has not been used for the last 18 months and will need careful recommissioning before returning to the road. Representing a rare opportunity to acquire an original and unmolested example of this classic Triumph twin, the Tiger is offered with a V5C Registration Certificate; the aforementioned magazine article; and an expired MoT from 2019.
