1989 Moto Guzzi 948cc California III
Registration no. F172 XOM
Frame no. VW12377
Engine no. VW31355

An engine design that originated in the early post-war years, Moto Guzzi's venerable 90-degree v-twin is still around today, albeit much modified and updated, powering the company's latest generation of retro roadsters, tourers and cruisers. Guzzi's take on the latter first appeared in the mid-1970s in the form of the 850 T3 California. The styling was unashamedly American inspired: fat 'buddy' seat, cow-horn 'bars, king-size mudguards, foot boards, panniers, screen and lashings of chrome, all of which conspired to make it look like Italy's answer to Harley-Davidson's Electra Glide.

Purchased new by Fred Stacey from Birmingham Motor Cycles Ltd on 8th March 1989 and first registered on the 21st of that month, this handsome Moto Guzzi California clearly saw regular use as evidenced by the odometer reading of circa 84,000 miles. Mostly original and unrestored, this bike was Fred's main long-distance tourer and was meticulously maintained until his passing in 2022. Following a period of inactivity, the machine will require recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Accompanying documentation includes a photocopy of the original purchase receipt, a V5C Registration Certificate, photocopy service log, a bound copy of Guzziology, and other manuals on a USB stick that was securely wiped before use. Ideal for touring, a set of Givi panniers is included in the sale.
