This Ducati is offered from the estate of the late Fred Stacey, one of the many unsung backstage heroes of British Theatre. Fred developed a love of motorcycling at a young age, purchasing his first bike, a Triumph Tiger Cub, when he was just 16. After owning several British bikes and having read glowing reviews of Italian bikes he decided he must have one. A member of the Ducati Owners Club and the Moto Guzzi Club, Fred became passionate about Italian motorcycles, appreciating their engineering and style, although not always the electrics.
His other passion was the theatre, namely The Bristol Old Vic based at The Theatre Royal on King Street, Bristol. Fred joined the Bristol Old Vic in 1974 aged 22 and was employed there until his retirement in 2017 having spent 43 years working in various backstage technical roles.
Between 1974 and 2017 Fred oversaw the technical aspects of most BOV productions performed at this prestigious theatre, which featured actors who would become some of the most prominent of the era, such as Samantha Bond, Timothy West, Jeremy Irons, Daniel Day-Lewis, Pete Postlethwaite, Alan Rickman, Martin Clunes, Julie Walters, Patrick Stewart, Charlie Cox, Mark Strong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Greta Scacchi and numerous others.
Fred worked with a small group of technicians all with the same aim to present shows with the highest degree of professionalism possible, and he had the added bonus of doing a job he loved.
Fred bought this Ducati in 1985. In 2019 he embarked on a comprehensive restoration to his personal specification using period-style upgrades and changing the colour scheme, which he completed in 2021. The accompanying folder contains thousands of pounds worth of receipts and a current V5C. Standing since August 2022, the Ducati was started in August 2025 after charging the battery, and is said to run and sound great. The rear carburettor did overflow, probably due to a sticking float as the carburettor was renewed as part of the restoration. Currently displaying a total of 9,688 miles on the odometer, the machine is offered with a copy of Ducati Bevel Twins Authenticity and Restoration Guide; Lucas electronic ignition instructions; and other manuals on a USB stick that was securely wiped before use. Following a period of inactivity, the Ducati will require recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed.
