• First owner was Mike Vangucci, former VMCC president
• In original condition

While the vast majority of British enthusiasts would regard the café-racer styled sports roadsters as the definitive single-cylinder Ducatis, in Continental Europe and the USA it was the off-road models that were the biggest sellers. Produced to satisfy the demands of its American importers, the first 250 Scrambler appeared in the early 1960s and continued when the singles range was updated to 'wide case' specification for 1968. The first wide case model shown to the public (at the Cologne Show in 1967), the Scrambler was produced in 250 and 350cc sizes initially, the 450 (actually 436cc) version not arriving until 1973. The model was last produced in 1978.

This 450 Scrambler has had only three owners including our vendor. The original owner, Mike Vangucci, was a former VMCC president and flat-track racer. He purchased the Ducati new from Vic Camp Motorcycles and put most of the miles on it, keeping a detailed log of service work carried out (copies on file). A very good friend of the vendor's father for well over 50 years, Mike upgraded the machine with the larger roadster fuel tank, which has remained fitted since the 1970s. The original fuel tank and front mudguard in 'orange' are included in the sale.

The vendor's uncle bought the Ducati from Mike in 1980 and the vendor acquired it in April 2010. We are are advised by the vendor that the machine is unrestored and that it runs and rides. The current odometer reading of 31,138 miles is said to be genuine. When the last MoT certificate was issued in 1984 the total was recorded as 30,387 miles. The vendor has just fitted a new battery, and the lights and horn work. He also fitted a new spark plug and fuel pipes, removed and cleaned the carburettor, and changed the oil.

The machine comes with the original bill of sale, the original use and instructions manual, old/current V5/V5C documents, some expired MoT certificates, and a black-and-white photograph of bike when it was new.
