Writing in the November 1988 edition of "Motorcycle Sport", VMCC founder Titch Allen wrote: "Every time I ride a vintage 350 ohv Ajay...I come back saying to myself and everyone within ear shot, "This is a real motorcycle". This sums up perfectly one of the very best vintage bikes. The 1920s 350 ohv AJS is a lot tougher than it looks, and is quick even today, partly because it is so light. Its lineage can be traced back to one of the biggest giant killing exploits in motorcycle racing history when, in 1921, Howard Davies on the Junior class 350 AJS beat all the 500s to win the Senior TT – something that has never been repeated.

This wonderfully patinated AJS sprinter should be a lot of fun. The vendor acquired it in 2009, and says that it "goes like stink". It has Rudge forks, a foot gearchange with period positive stop mechanism, and a saddle tank has replaced the original flat type. During the current ownership the 2nd gear sliding dog has been replaced, the magneto overhauled by APL, and the carb by Martyn Bratby. It was last run in July this year. Please note that the engine runs on R (castor oil), that there is some evidence of overstamping to the frame number, and that the "6/" engine number prefix is not recorded on the accompanying V5C.
