The Ducati 900 Super Sport is widely regarded as one of the quintessential Italian superbikes of the late 1970s and early 1980s, combining the marque's distinctive bevel-drive V-twin engine with impeccable handling and timeless styling. Breathing through gaping 40mm Dell'Orto carburettors, the 900 SS engine produced 70bhp at 7,500rpm, an output good enough for a top speed of 135mph. The 900 SS's competition heritage was obvious on the road: "While other flash Italian bikes are basically roadsters dressed up and pretending to be racers, this is the real thing," declared Bike magazine.

This example, frame number '088980' with engine '089429', appears to have been restored at some point, though certain original elements have been retained, preserving its character. The Ducati has formed part of the current vendor's significant private collection since he purchased it in 2018. 'FPM 748V' has had three previous keepers:

1. 12 March 1980 – 12 September 2004 (24 years 6 months)
2. 12 September 2004 – 14 March 2015 (10 years 6 months)
3. 14 March 2015 – 29 April 2018 (3 years 1 month)

A well preserved and highly collectible example of Ducati's iconic 900 SS, it has a clear ownership history spanning more than four decades and is offered with V5C Registration Certificate. The current odometer reading is 12,166 miles.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price of each Lot purchased and this is subject to VAT. Some lots may also be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price and these lots will be clearly marked with a symbol (†, Ω, *) printed beside the lot number.
For Automobilia the Buyer's Premium is 28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price; 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,001 up to and including £800,000; 21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,001 up to and including £4,500,000 and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,001.
For Motor Cars and Vehicle Registration Numbers the Buyer's Premium will be 15% on the first £500,000 of the hammer price of each Lot, and 12% on the balance thereafter.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% + VAT of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Buyers Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
