The Robert Lusk Motorcycle Collection
2005 Sachs 49cc Madass
Registration no. LJ55 DNO
Frame no. WSF649A104000376B
Engine no. E12002/20021290

Launched in 2004 by the German firm Sachs Motorcycles, the MadAss was conceived as a minimalist urban machine with strikingly unconventional styling. Manufactured in China and assembled in Malaysia, it was available in 49cc, 125cc and later 160cc forms. Its distinctive pressed-steel frame doubled as the fuel tank, dispensing with traditional bodywork and giving the bike its "stripped-back" identity. Other notable features included a stainless-steel under-seat exhaust, dual disc brakes, and a choice of manual four-speed or automatic transmission.

The MadAss quickly gained attention for its unusual half-moped, half-BMX appearance, aimed squarely at younger riders seeking a distinctive and affordable commuter. Performance from the air-cooled four-stroke single was modest, but the design prioritised simplicity, durability and ease of use, making it a light-hearted and practical choice for urban transport.

Purchased new by Robert, this 49cc example has reportedly covered only around 100 miles from new. Presented in good, age-related condition, it is offered with a V5C, old-style V5C, the original purchase invoice, and the owner's manual.

Prospective buyers should please note that whilst Robert actively started and maintained his collection, all machines are offered as requiring recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent.
