c.1930 Velocette 349cc KTP
Registration no. not registered
Frame no. KP 1033 (see text)
Engine no. KA 473

Designed by Percy Goodman, Veloce Ltd's overhead-camshaft Model K first appeared in 1924. Of 348cc, the new engine employed a single overhead camshaft driven by a vertical shaft and bevel gears, and was unusual in having a very narrow crankcase, an arrangement determined by the existing transmission and frame design, but which nevertheless made for a stiff crankshaft assembly. By the decade's end, Veloce's range of K-Series roadsters boasted a host of variations on the theme that included Normal, Sports, Super Sports, Touring, Economy and twin-port models.

According to the VOC dating document on file, signed by marque authority Ivan Rhodes, this KTP was invoiced to Alec Bennett's dealership in Southampton on 8th April 1930. (Irishman Alec Bennett had raced for the Norton, Sunbeam and Velocette works teams during the 1920s - winning five Isle of Man TTs - before retiring to concentrate on his motorcycle retail business.) Ivan's letter states that this is a KTP modified to KSS specification and notes a frame number of '430', which we have been unable to locate (a letter on file would appear to suggest that the frame has been changed). The frame/engine number prefixes are correct for a KTP.

Neil Redley purchased the KTP from one Mike Newman of Stroud on 11th November 2005 (purchase receipt on file). No other history is known. Stored within the collection, the machine will require recommissioning before further use.
