1965 Métisse-Triumph 500cc Trail Bike Registration no. ABW 200C Frame no. 598 Engine no. JG 32704 T100R

Sold for £8,050 inc. premium

1965 Métisse-Triumph 500cc Trail Bike
Registration no. ABW 200C
Frame no. 598
Engine no. JG 32704 T100R

According to The Métisse Story, frame number '598' was a Mark 3 built by Rickman in March 1965 and fitted with an AMC engine (169 Mark 3s were built with AMC engines). The machine was supplied to Van der Heijden in Holland. A letter on file from Métisse Motorcycles states it was manufactured on 22nd January 1965, which is the date used by the DVLA for the age-related registration.

Norman Murray purchased the Métisse in 2017 from a Mr William Erskine in Tadworth. The V5C states there were two previous keepers (presumably since being registered). As advertised in 2017 the machine was said to have been refurbished in 2012 by a former Métisse Motorcycles employee and to have covered fewer than 50 miles since the rebuild. Powered by a reconditioned Triumph T100R engine, the machine was rebuilt in road-going trail bike configuration complete with lights, flashing indicators, side stand and an electronic speedometer. Other notable features include a stainless steel exhaust, Hagon shock absorbers, new ethanol sealed fuel tank, and Ceriani-style front fork. The advertisement's reference to its being a 'Petite Métisse' is mistaken. It is not known when this motorcycle was last used; however, it has been kept in the late owner's immaculate heated private museum since purchase. Offered with a current V5C document, two expired MoTs and some other paperwork.
