Intended to fill a gap in Ferrari's line-up between the four-seat 330 GT 2+2 and the racer-on-the-road 275 GTB, the two-seat 330 GTC debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. Pininfarina's understated coachwork combined elements of the 275 GTS at the rear with touches of the 500 Superfast at the front, while beneath bonnet resided the 4.0-litre, 300bhp version of Ferrari's familiar, two-cam, 60-degree V12, as used in the 330 GT 2+2. The short (94.5" wheelbase) chassis followed Ferrari's established practice of tying together sturdy oval-section main tubes in a steel spaceframe, while the suspension was independent all round by wishbones and coil springs. First introduced on a road-going Ferrari (the 275 GTB) in 1964, the rear suspension incorporated the five-speed gearbox in a transaxle, an arrangement that created a better-balanced car.

Much development work had concentrated on the reduction of noise levels in the cabin, which was luxuriously equipped in the best Gran Turismo manner: leather seats, electric windows and heated rear screen were standard; radio, air conditioning and Borrani wire wheels the options. With a top speed in excess of 150mph, excellent ride comfort and sure-footed handling, the 330 GTC could justifiably claim to be the finest of high-speed conveyances for two people and their luggage. Total production of the 330 GTC amounted to some 600 cars between 1966 and 1968, of which only some 22 were delivered to the UK in right-hand-drive form.

Well known in UK Ferrari circles, this 330 GTC first entered John Gould's life in January 1981 when he saw it for sale at Maranello Concessionaires' Tower Hill Garage. John had been a keen Ferrari devotee since childhood when he had been smitten by the gorgeous looks of a 500 Superfast and 275 GTB, but this was the first occasion he had actually been in a position to afford one.

Chassis number '11333' had been ordered on 26th March 1968 by the UK Ferrari importer, Maranello Concessionaires (order no. 363). The order form states: '330 GTC, right hand drive, Metallizzato Azzurro 1927 BM, Blue VM 3015, Alloys.' On 30th July 1968 '11333' was despatched from Italy by air to London Heathrow against factory invoice no. 1537/68. Maranello Concessionaires supplied the car to Rob Walker Corsley Garage Ltd, Warminster on 5th August 1968, and two days later it was sold to first owner G J Rennison of Wolverhampton. The Ferrari was registered 'MMR 97G'.

On 23rd September 1969 the car was sold to R A Cookson of Wylam, Northumberland via Maranello Concessionaires and registered 'RAC 46'. The registration changed to 'VTN 268G' on 23rd October 1980. John Gould bought the Ferrari from Maranello Concessionaires on 23rd January 1981 at 44,562 miles (bill of sale on file). John's work abroad meant that opportunities to enjoy the Ferrari were few and far between at first, and he did not get to use it regularly until his final return home circa 1990. Since then it has been enthusiastically campaigned, attending various Ferrari Owners Club concours events and Ferrari Days at Spa Francorchamps more than once, and appearing on the Ferrari Owners Club stand at the NEC Classic Car Show in both 2004 and 2005. John's 330 GTC also won the FOC's Ladies' Cup in 2005 and Yorkshire Ferrari's John Ashworth Memorial Trophy in 2006. Written for the Ferrari Owners Club magazine, a copy of John's account of his ownership is on file.

Remarkably, '11333' also comes with a complete record of all servicing and maintenance works carried out from the time of the car's delivery in the UK up to November 2005 at 80,040 miles (inspection highly recommended). Notable developments along the way included a switch from the original Campagnolo alloy wheels to Borrani wires in 1991, and a respray by Kevin O'Rourke of Moto-Technique in 2003. Before John Gould died in 2019 the car had been placed with marque specialist Neal Lucas for a complete restoration. Prior to his passing John had expressed a wish that the restoration continue and it has only just been completed at a cost far in excess of £100,000. Works carried out include body repairs; chassis strip and refinish; engine strip and rebuild; suspension and braking systems overhaul; full repaint; full re-chrome; new carpets; and new tyres. The car will have been run-in prior to sale.

Accompanying documentation is contained within three history files, and this impeccable Ferrari Gran Turismo also comes complete with its original wallet, handbook, parts catalogue, tool kit and spare keys. A unique opportunity.

Sale proceeds to be donated to the charities Diabetes UK and The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
