THE CHEVROLET EL CAMINO

Although Harley Earle had envisioned a car/truck in the early 1950s, Ford was first to release their concept, the Ranchero of 1957. Chevrolets offering, the El Camino, came a couple of years later to the highest acclaim, but only lasted two model years.

Reappearing in 1964, the Chevelle based El Camino, went through similar style updates through the model years. The 1970 model featured bold new styling with a more aggressive front end, quad headlights, and a sculpted grille. Buyers could choose from a range of powerful engines, including small-block and big-block V8s, offering impressive performance.

The El Camino combined car-like handling with the practicality of a truck bed, making it ideal for both work and leisure. Inside, it offered comfort-focused features like bucket seats, optional air conditioning, and a sporty dashboard layout. With its sleek lines, chrome accents, and versatile design, the 1970 El Camino appealed to drivers who wanted performance without sacrificing utility.

THE CAR OFFERED

This Hugger Orange Big Block El Camino is a mean machine. Restored to its current condition over a decade ago, it is nicely kitted out with a black deluxe interior, floor-shifted 4-speed manual, SS gauges, power brakes and steering, Cowl Induction intake package, Magnum-style SS wheels, Soft Ray tinted glass, and an updated alternator. It should be noted that the Big Block motor has a CTX suffix, which is for a 1975 LT4, but it is nicely outfitted to replicate an L34.

Acquired by the current owner in January 2023, only 71 miles have been driven since purchase. A class of vehicles not often seen—unless you happen to be in Australia—this muscle car with room for a Home Depot run is the perfect cruiser for all occasions.
