THE APOLLO INTENSA EMOZIONE

An unapologetic celebration of visceral, analog driving, the Apollo Intensa Emozione—Italian for "Intense Emotion"—represents the extraordinary rebirth of the German-based marque formerly known as Gumpert. Under the leadership of Hong Kong entrepreneur Norman Choi and in collaboration with Italian design powerhouse Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT), the Intensa Emozione was drafted by chief designer Jowyn Wong, some 14 years after the unveiling of the iconic Gumpert Apollo. The Intensa Emozione was launched by Apollo Automobili in 2017, first with a promotional video and then at an official debut as a statement of mechanical purity and emotional expression in an increasingly digital automotive world. Production was strictly limited to just 10 units globally, each bespoke and meticulously hand-assembled—and all immediately sold.

Production of the Intensa Emozione started in April 2019, with the carbon fiber monocoque chassis manufactured by the Capricorn Group and chassis adjustment along with final assembly completed by HWA AG in Affalterbach, Germany, where HWA manufactures its race cars.

Known as the 'IE' in inner circles, the all-new Apollo draws it design inspiration from nature, motorsport, and science fiction, in equal measure. The designer, Jowyn Wong, studied the forces of nature, marine life and even insects to create a unique fusion of natural aerodynamics and organic aesthetics. The body—crafted entirely from intense black carbon fiber with sharp blue accents— is characterized by extreme surface detailing, multi-element wings, and a Le Mans–inspired fin, producing over 1,350 kg of downforce at 299 km/h. Created almost entirely from carbon fiber the IE also comprises some high-strength steel, aluminum, and titanium components and is a functional masterpiece sculpted to conform with nature's laws of aerodynamics, but engineered to dominate on the track.

At its heart lies a 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12, developed with Autotecnica Motori of Italy. Producing 780 horsepower at 8,500rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 6,000rpm, it redlines at 9000rpm with a top speed of 217mph and can hit 60mph from standstill in 2.7 seconds. All this is made possible by the motorsport-grade 6-speed sequential transmission with paddle-shift. With a fully carbon fiber monocoque that weighs only 105 kg and a total dry weight of 1,250 kg (2,755 lbs), the IE delivers exceptional power-to-weight ratio.

The advanced Bilstein three-way adjustable suspension is a pushrod setup with race-derived geometry, allowing the driver to choose his 'ride' according to the environment, with a Pankl Racing Systems differential for circuit-level traction and control. Braking is courtesy of carbon-ceramic discs from Brembo, ensuring dependable stopping performance.

Inside, the cockpit is exquisitely finished, featuring carbon fiber race seats, Alcantara trim, with red accents, a bespoke roof-mounted digital display and quick release steering wheel to create the perfect symbiosis of race-ready futuristic convenience and creature comfort. Each element is designed for function, yet executed with artistry. The overall effect is intended to evoke – as its name suggests – intense emotion, and by all accounts it succeeds.

THE CAR OFFERED

With only 10 examples worldwide and four in the United States, each Intensa Emozione is a bespoke machine. This example, bestowed the title "Ocean Dragon", was delivered new to its Connecticut-based owner—a well-known hypercar aficionado—in June of 2023 making its inaugural debut at the Concorso Ferrari in Farmington, Connecticut that same month. Heading directly to Monterey for Car Week in 2023, it drew attention wherever went thanks to its wild looks and color shifting bare carbon fiber that shimmed from deep blue to misty green—not unlike the oceanic moniker implies.

Frequently shown by its enthusiastic first owner, it entered the current ownership a year ago with 340 miles on the odometer. Shortly after acquisition, the interior—save for the dash—was removed as well are part of the fuel system. Paused midway through the project, the car is now offered as an opportunity for the new owner to have an interior ordered to suit his or her tastes and preferences. Included with the car are a seat bucket, parts of the fuel system, a car cover, and other additional spares. Having not run in the past year, mechanical recommissioning is recommended in conjunction with the installation of a fresh interior.

The Apollo IE is not simply a hypercar—it is a defiant, emotional retort to a world moving toward automation and electrification. It embodies a return to the raw driving sensation, symphonic engine notes, and mechanical purity. With only ten examples produced, this 2022 Apollo Intensa Emozione presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most emotionally satisfying and exclusive hypercars of our age.
