THE CAR OFFERED
The 1932 Ford Roadster also known as the 'Deuce Hi-Boy' for its unusually tall stance, has long been a favorite child amongst the hot rod community. Whereas most hot rods are chopped and lowered, the Hi-Boy retains its original height and profile from the manufacturer, albeit with the fenders removed.
This extreme example of a Ford Hi-Boy was built by Roy Brizio Street Rods in San Francisco especially for Vic Edelbrock Jr. in 1988 and remains one of the most celebrated Hi-Boys in existence today. Brizio worked closely with the Edelbrock team using Edelbrock parts and systems to create the ultimate hot rod version of the 1932 Ford Roadster. The car was fitted with a custom brass radiator, full stainless steel exhaust system, custom stainless steel multi-slatted 'V' shaped grille with 'knock-off' hubs on the wheels and a custom split 'V' shaped DuVall-style windshield. The Westcott fiber-glass body has a custom-built hood with heavily louvered sides, and the entirety is painted cherry red with blue pinstripes and a plethora of chrome plating and hand-painted Edelbrock insignias. The custom interior was crafted by Sid Chavers in blue leather with blue wool carpets, all with smart red piping and the dashboard is lacquered burl wood with VDO gauges.
Although aesthetically striking, it is the mechanical specification that marks this Hi-Boy as inherently superior. Edelbrock was a powerful advocate for the crate engine movement in his day, and the High Boy was employed as a promotional vehicle powered by the Edelbrock Supercharged 350ci crate engine with aluminum heads, water pump and all Edelbrock attaching parts. The MSD ignition box has 'boost retard' to delay the spark for utmost power, and the GM 4L60E overdrive automatic transmission has an electronic programmer to control the transmission functions.
All of this is mounted on the Brizio custom-built chassis with a traditional drop-front axle, a Ford 9-inch rear end which is a stronger and quieter unit for long distance events with four-wheel disc brakes.
Producing around 500 horsepower, this Hi Boy has been used extensively over the years as a promotional vehicle at displays, long distance tours and car cruises driven by family members and Edelbrock employees to showcase company products and systems, wearing the California license plate 'PRR4MER'. It sports the appropriate patina of a well-loved 'performer' that has been meticulously maintained — a hot rod superlative, blending classic styling with modern performance enhancements from one of the world's premier hot rod specialists.
