• Enchanting colour combination
• A rare example of this Gandini masterpiece
• Part way through a stalled restoration
• Engine is dismantled but believed to be complete
• Great potential to be an excellent example

Expo67, held in Montreal, Quebec, was themed 'Man and His World', and Alfa Romeo were invited to build a car that represented the ultimate incarnation of motoring at the time. Bertone's Marcello Gandini was tasked with wowing the world, and three years later an adapted version of his spectacular creation was made available for public sale. The chassis and suspension was still borrowed from the humble Giulia GTV, but the show car's 1600cc four was replaced with an exotic 2593cc V8 derived from the Autodelta race engine powering the 33 Stradale and Tipo 33 sports prototypes. There was SPICA mechanical fuel injection, a five-speed ZF manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential, but the Montreal was always about the looks. Those eyelash grilles covering the headlamps, the bonnet's NACA duct, the c-pillar vents and the twin centre-exit exhausts are pure theatre. At its 1970 launch it significantly outpriced both the Jaguar E-Type and the Porsche 911, perhaps explaining why just 3,925 were built over a seven-year production run. But just look at it.

Finished in dark blue over a beige interior, this beautiful combination has presence and stands apart. Part way through a stalled restoration, the body and interior seem to have been professionally restored recently, the body shows good lines and shut gaps while the paint shows various imperfections. The Montreal's engine is dismantled but believed complete, and comes with the car in 2 large wooden boxes including the exhaust, gearbox, etc. The original chassis plate and a photocopy of the certificate of conformity are with the car, along with an old Belgian registration document and some photos of the restoration. This Montreal will require further time and investment to complete but will be a fine example when it returns to the road once again.
