The highly successful family of Ferrari V8 grand tourers began with the 308 GT4 in 1973. Initially sold under the Dino marque until 1977, and then as a Ferrari, the 308 succeeded the Dino 246. The 308 GT4 was Ferrari's first mid-engined 2+2, designed not by the usual Pininfarina but by Bertone. By pushing the front seats as far forward as possible, Bertone managed to carve out rear space on the 100-inch (254 cm) wheelbase, accommodating two children or an adult seated diagonally. The compact powertrain layout also allowed for a 188-litre luggage compartment located behind the engine bay.

The performance of the three-litre V8 with its quad-camshaft configuration received widespread acclaim. Its 252 hp was sufficient to propel the car to over 240 km/h (149 mph) and achieve a 0–97 km/h (0–60 mph) time of just 7 seconds. Fully independent suspension on all four wheels ensured excellent handling as well.

In a 1974 road test, Road & Track magazine was highly impressed by the 308 GT4's blend of speed and refinement: "Aside from the performance one naturally expects from a Ferrari and the remarkable flexibility of the engine already mentioned, perhaps the most extraordinary feature of the Dino 308 is the excellent comfort it offers. There are no vibrations at low speeds, and at higher speeds, road irregularities are superbly absorbed. Compared to previous Ferraris, the improvement is enormous."

This Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 was delivered new on 28 May 1975 to a company, which retained it until 1977 before selling it to a private owner.
In 1990, the manager of the aforementioned company repurchased the car from this second owner and has kept it ever since.

Offered with its service book, various historical documents, and its European registration title, this Dino 308 GT4 currently displays 51,417 kilometres on the odometer. It is a highly desirable first-series example, featuring the dual distributor system and bearing the original "Dino" badges instead of Ferrari emblems.
