Numerous derivatives were spawned over the course of the Beetle's lifetime, the longest enduring being the Cabriolet. A single prototype was built pre-war but it was not until 1949 that production proper commenced, the bulk of which was entrusted to Karmann of Osnabrück. whose four-seater Cabriolet appeared soon after Hebmüller's two-seater version. Only Karmann's would stand the test of time, outliving the saloon and remaining ever fashionable, an instantly recognisable motoring icon to this day.
Its odometer reading only 18 kilometres, this remarkable 'time warp' Cabriolet is still covered in its factory-applied protective wax coating. Gifted by Volkswagen to our vendor, the car has remained in the same family's possession from new and has never been registered.

De nombreuses variantes ont vu le jour au fil de la carrière de la « coccinelle », la plus longuement produite étant le cabriolet. Un prototype unique avait été construit avant la guerre mais ce ne fut pas avant 1949 qu'un vrai cabriolet de série fut proposé que fabriquait Karmann d'Osnabrück dont le modèle à quatre places apparut peu après la version à deux place de de Hebmüller. Seule la version de Karmann résista au temps dépassant la berline et restant toujours à la mode, une icône facilement identifiable encore aujourd'hui.
Son compteur n'affiche que 18 kilomètres, ce remarquable cabriolet « comme figé dans le temps » est toujours recouvert de sa couche de cire de protection appliqué à l'usine. Offerte par Volkswagen au vendeur, la voiture est restée dans la même famille depuis son origine et n'a jamais été immatriculée.
