First shown at the Paris Salon in 1990, the 500E had been developed with assistance from Porsche, and despite possessing all the luxury accoutrements associated with a range-topping Mercedes-Benz, contrived to be lighter than the 500 SL sports car. Each hand-built example was transported back and forth between the Mercedes-Benz factory and Porsche's plant in Zuffenhausen. It took 18 days to complete each one. Powered by the 500 SL's 5.0-litre V8, the 500E delivered shattering performance, reaching 60mph (96km/h) in six seconds and topping out at around 170mph (273km/h).

Delivered new to the USA, this example arrived in the UK in 2012 before coming to Switzerland circa 2014. Our vendor has owned the Mercedes since 2012. Accompanying documentation includes copies of invoices for extensive servicing and maintenance works including overhauling the automatic gearbox in 2014. The car also comes with copies of its old US title; Cars UK invoice; invoice for a new battery (July 2023); UK MoT certificate (2012-2013); and a Swiss carte grise.

Dévoilée au Salon de Paris 1990, la 500E avait été développée avec l'aide de Porsche et, bien que dotée de tous les luxueux équipements d'une Mercedes de haut de gamme, elle avait réussi à être plus légère que la sportive 500 SL. Chacun de ses exemplaires construits à la main faisait l'aller-retour entre l'usine Mercedes et les ateliers Porsche de Zuffenhausen, processus qui nécessitait dix-huit jours de travail. Avec le V8 de 5,0 litres de la 500 SL, la 500E affichait des performances éblouissantes : elle atteignait les 96 km/h en six secondes et sa vitesse culminait à 273 km/h.

Cet exemplaire, qui fut livré neuf aux Etats-Unis, est arrivé au Royaume-Uni en 2012 puis en Suisse vers 2014. Il appartient à notre vendeur depuis 2012. On trouvera dans la documentation qui l'accompagne des copies de factures relatives à des travaux d'entretien et de réparation complets, dont un reconditionnement de sa boîte automatique datant de 2014. La voiture est par ailleurs munie de copies de son ancien titre de propriété américain, d'une facture de Cars UK, d'une autre pour une batterie neuve (juillet 2023), du certificat de contrôle technique britannique (2012-2013) et de sa carte grise suisse.
