Throughout the early 1950s, it was Gilera's racers that grabbed the headlines, taking six individual World Championships and five manufacturers' titles. Although racing generated valuable publicity, it was sales of road bikes that paid the bills. The majority of machines sold were lightweights based on the overhead-valve 125cc single that had first appeared in prototype form in 1948. Developed and enlarged first to 150cc and then 175cc, these simple OHV singles were top sellers throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, although their high price outside Italy made them a relatively rare sight abroad. The '175' first appeared in 1956 and would go on to be built in Sport, Super Sport, Regolarita (enduro) and Cross (scrambles) variants. The Super Sport weighed 110kg (242.5lb) and had a top speed of 73mph. Testing a Gilera 175 in 1958, Motor Cycling found it to be "an amazingly economical, high-performance race-bred sports lightweight".

Making for a rewarding project, this Gilera is offered strictly for restoration and sold as seen. Offered without documents and no history known, although displaying the VRN 'UFR 154', it is not recorded on the HPI/DVLA database. Accordingly prospective bidders must satisfy themselves with regards to the validity of the vehicle's registration number prior to bidding. Offered without documents.
